The trial operation covers the section from Shantounan Railway Station to Shanwei Railway Station, with a length of 143 kilometers. The remaining Shantou-Shantounan section includes the Shantou Bay submarine tunnel and is under construction in an orderly manner. It is reported that once the Shantou-Shanwei High Speed Railway is completed and opened, it will be connected to the previously opened Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway in September this year, reducing the travel time from Guangzhou to Shantou to about 1.5 hours.
Simultaneously, after the Shantou-Shanwei High Speed Railway is put into operation, it will join the Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway, Zhangzhou-Shantou High Speed Railway, Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou High Speed Railway, Wenzhou-Fuzhou High Speed Railway, and Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Railway. Together, they will form the Ningbo-Guangzhou High Speed Railway, a crucial link in the national southeast coastal high speed railway corridor. This corridor passes through 15 cities in Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang provinces, serving as a vital connection between the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration and the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration.
