Situated at the intersection of China’s coastline and the golden waterway of the Yangtze River, Shanghai Port primarily serves the Yangtze River Delta and its basin. The port has maintained its position as the world’s top container throughput hub for 13 consecutive years, indicating promising prospects for sea-rail intermodal transportation.
CR-Shanghai has made substantial efforts to enhance the operational capacity of the Luchaogang Railway Station, the railway container center adjacent to Shanghai Port. Focusing on the primary radiation area of Shanghai Port in the Yangtze River Delta region, they concurrently executed capacity expansion projects at cargo yards such as Suzhouxi Railway Station, Changzhou Railway Station, and Changxingnan Railway Station. Additionally, container auxiliary stacking yards were established at freight yards like Hefeibei Railway Station and Huzhouxi Railway Station, and a new logistics base, Hefei Paihegang Logistics Base, was constructed to significantly enhance the support capacity behind Luchao Port.
While expanding the capacity at key stations, CR-Shanghai has also strengthened capacity arrangements along the transportation channels. Currently, the sea-rail intermodal transportation train routes at Shanghai Port have increased to 15 pairs, with an additional two single-line intermodal routes, forming a model of scheduled, combinational, and daily sea-rail intermodal train services.
